James Embrose (sometimes spelled Ambrose), a colored Ypsilanti barber, had the misfortune to lose his house and goods two weeks ago to-day by a fire which injured him$500 worth.

Sarah Ambrose (also written as Embrose) lived alone at 211 South Adams, which she also owned. She divorced James C. Ambrose, a barber and son of local Civil War veteran William Ambrose, in the 1890s. Sarah was born in 1858 in Michigan. A 1901 city directory states that Sarah “removed to Detroit.”
